". . . but I have MILES TO GO before I sleep, miles to go before I sleep." Robert Frost

Favorite Places

One of the most common questions I'm asked about driving a truck is "where is your favorite place to drive?"

I answer that that is really a tough question because there are so many factors that go into deciding why one place is nicer than another.  I LOVE the southwest, the open horizon, the exposed geology, the variety of wildlife, and yes, the absence of traffic jams in the Arizona desert.  But equally beautiful are the hundreds of miles across Wyoming, driving above the tree-line, seeing the snow capped peaks, wild, wild west history of places like Rawlins and Cheyenne.  The very rare opportunity to get to the coastal highway in California, Big Sur is something to not be missed if you are ever out here with time on your hands.

But on this trip I was reminded of two places I get to travel through every time I come west from Denver - both are illustrations of my love of the southwest, canyon lands, buttes, mesas, tables, cactus, pine, and the Colorado River.  Both are brief - they take less than a half hour to pass through, sweeping, curving, cool, and majestic canyons, and if a great road tune happens to be on the radio at the time, its icing on the cake!  Today is the first half of the ride west through Glenwood Canyon.  Its on the western slope of the Rockys 50 miles west of Vail.
