". . . but I have MILES TO GO before I sleep, miles to go before I sleep." Robert Frost

Galway
Spent the week touring with my sister and got to all our points of interest we wanted to see - Glendalough and St. Kevin's Monastery on day 1. Powerscourt estate and gardens in Co.Wicklow followed by Trintity College in Dublin to see the display of the Book of Kells on Day 2; Day 3 up to the Town of Kells where the illuminated manuscripts were first hidden by the monks who traveled to Ireland from the Scottish Isles to avoid marauding Vikings in 1100. We also visited the hilltop location of Tara, an ancient site of coronations for Irish Kings before moving west to look at the Trim Castle (where "Braveheart" was partially filmed). That night was spent at a real castle built in the 1600's, Cregg Castle in County Galway; Yesterday was a tour to the coastline of Counties Mayo and Galway to see Patrick's Head, a coastal landmark, and Croagh Patrick, an Irish mountain that is the site for an annual pilgrimage the last Sunday in July. For attonement, pilgrims are to climb the stone strewn mountain path (elevation 2400 feet) barefoot. I've tried twice and come as close to the top (a 2 hour endeavor) as I care to get (50feet away but the last 50 feet in the clouds and rain was up a 60 degree incline of loose rocks and boulders).
Today my sister begins a retreat at a local Abbey while I return to Galway for some family research - except that the internet said the library was open today (Saturday) but it's not! damn! twist my arm, I guess I'll have to go for a pint!slan,bb.
