America must have a serious problem such as pschyzophrenia and one of these days, is going to have to figure out which personality it will let reign.  This quandry is about the issue of being PC or not being PC.

Prince Harry does an extremely ignorant, insulting act (gee, imagine a 20 year old kid doing that) and the world comes down on him, including every damn group you can find in the US. 

Meanwhile, tonite on US tv, a program that has been getting critical praise and supposedly is written for a large enough audience that Hollywood thinks (knows) exists out there.  And what kind of show is it?  About the most vile, insulting, juvenile type humor you can find on tv today.  It's called "Committed" and I accidentally stumbled on it just now after avoiding it the other night because it seemed particularly boorish.

In the first 30 seconds I had it on the tv (the following 15 minutes were due to the rubber-necker-train-wreck syndrome "ohhh! how bad can it get?" ), the characters in a hospital insulted the mentally ill, they fluffed up the pain of a burn victim (they're usually much more mellow than that" ), they made an insensitive remark about paralyzed patients ("paraplegics, quadreplegics, I love 'em all, but you know, those quads are just TWICE as much trouble" or something to that effect), and later made light of drug abuse ("oh, I'm fine, but go ahead and see if you can score me some vicodan" that spoken by a nurse).

I don't know, maybe I can't justify my disbelief or my disgust.  After all, the very rude and insensitive doctor ("Becker" ) played by Ted Danson, to me, is hilarious.  But his character, seems to me to be SUPPOSED to be that way as a lesson, much as Carrol O'Connor's Archie Bunker was a sexist, homophobic, racist, blah blah blah, but it was for the purpose of making us LOOK at his faults.  This "Committed" has no such high goals, it's simply rude, crude and socially unacceptable in EXACTLY the same way that Prince Harry was. Trust me, I'll never waste more time on that show in the future than takes to change the channel.bb.
