When I returned from my Iceland/Ireland/Scotland trip I blogged about several musical acts that caught my ear over there (the UK). Often I have found pop music playing there is a hit months before crossing the pond to the US. One example was Estelle who soon came to the US on tour with her huge hit "Amercian Boy" (sung with Kanye West).
I typically do NOT like the euro dance techno stuff I have to listen to, but
Estelle ("American Boy" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IjlOYHpi-A0)
Girls Aloud ("Can't Speak French" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i0sezoBzESk)
Gabriella ("Sweet About Me" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hTWGH8-FKgM)
Adele ("Chasing Pavement" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qz7vGW2_5c0)
all had hits that hit my ear. In my blog I suggested listening to the tune and ignoring the video as the melodies were something I enjoyed to a windshield full of unfamiliar landscapes, snowy days, gray skies turning blue, and blue skies turning gray, all Scotland.
Tonite on the Craig Ferguson Show, he had his country (wo)man Amy McDonald. Her hit this spring was "This Is The Life" a tune I thought had a very distinctive Irish sound to it though she is a Glasgow musician.
I was sorry this wasn't the song she sang tonite so instead I'll post it here. Her album apparently is just being released in the US.
