Made it safely to Mechanicsburg, PA this morning only to hear on the news that some idiot trucker missed a turn and rolled his rig upsetting his load of 44,000 pounds of beer! NOOOOOOOOOO! It shut down the junction of I-81 and I-83 for 12 hours while they pulled the truck out and off-loaded the cargo.
Passed the site of last night's wreck but it offered no clues. It wasn't a bridge as much as an overpass just beyond an exit ramp. The ramp was sheer ice, but that was probably due to no traffic on it overnight so I'll void my guess about the reason for the wreck I gave yesterday. It may still have been someone slowing for the exit and trucks not being prepared to stop or change lanes quickly enough. I haven't had that problem since the accident I had 8 years ago that I described. There's just no reason to not leave a safe space between you and the next guy.
The day was mostly spent on errands after I dropped the trailer at General Mills. Got the laundry caught up, got my shopping done, mailed out a gift box (candy canes, chocolate Santas, coloring books, and crayons) to my 24 2nd grade pen pals in Staten Island, NY. (hype them up with a sugar rush, the teach will LOVE me for that!)
Can't find the cream for my leg (3 pharmacy visits in the past week with no luck),but don't see much change since I ran out last week. It puffs up during the day (mostly the ankle, then the foot, and just a little of the calf) but then goes to normal overnight.
End of the afternoon got my next assignment - down to Hanover, PA (home of Snyders of Hanover and of Utz chips) to get a cload of pretzles headed up to Grand Rapids, MI tomorrow night. Drove til 10pm and am camped out on the PA turnpike for the night. (I'm using a "back-date" feature to allow me to post messages after the fact when I get to a truckstop but keep the continuity on the blog)
